Pine & Crane, Los Angeles
OWNER VIVIAN KU’S STORY
Vivian Ku grew up on her family’s Chinese vegetable farm in Bakersfield, California. There, from an early age, Vivian was exposed to the food production process witnessing seeds grow into greens that eventually were harvested through the seasons. But her venture into the culinary industry didn’t start right away.
Vivian attended Harvard college for a degree in Economics, but it was in college that she realized she wanted to run restaurants for a living. She took on a job running Quincy Grill on her college campus and staged at Henrietta’s Table in Harvard Square on the side. Upon graduation, she enrolled in the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Vivian took the combined knowledge that she gained from both institutions and opened the highly successful Pine & Crane in Silver Lake, Los Angeles in 2014. And, in 2018, she opened a sister concept called Joy in Highland Park, Los Angeles.
