WINE & BEVERAGE DIRECTOR BERNIE KEAVENEY’S STORY
Bernie Keaveney was raised on a farm in rural western Ireland which played a big part in shaping her belief in the farm-to-table approach. Before realizing her love for the restaurant industry, Bernie had pursued other careers in Software and Chemistry. Her passion for wine, cocktails, and people came together at La Morra where she found the perfect balance of each.
Bernie received her ‘Italian Wine Specialist’ qualification, with honors, from the North American Sommelier Association and her French Wine Specialist Certification, with honors, from the French Wine Society. She also received a distinction for her Level 3 WSET Certification.
Bernie and La Morra owner Jen Ziskin prefer to choose producers who hold similar values. They put in the time and effort to meet the winemakers and their families, visiting their vineyards to really appreciate and understand their passion and traditions. Biodiversity and environmentally sustainable practices are of utmost importance to the pair when selecting the winemakers that they partner with.
Beyond her extensive knowledge of wine, Bernie is well-versed in cocktails mixing up some of the classics, while also offering contemporary twists. Keaveney demonstrates an affinity, especially towards amaros, bitters, and tinctures, and regularly features these in her cocktails.
